You only need to do a search on here to see how many people are having problems with IE7. The best thing to do is download Mozilla Firefox available from http://www.mozilla.com/ Its faster, more user friendly, easily customisable to suit your needs and no problems.

IE7 has a significantly larger memory footprint than Firefox or IE6 so if your pc doesn't have a lot of RAM or you are running other programmes at the same time, it could cause problems such as you describe.
If you haven't done already, clean your browser cache and index.dat files, reboot your pc and launch IE7 again. Use a free utility like CCleaner
http://www.ccleaner.com
Also make sure you have the latest add-ons/toolbars that work with IE7 - if you are using Flash player, get the latest version etc

As you can gather by all the other answers IE7 has a lot of problems to iron out. I ended up going back to 6 and I'll stick with that until they get rid of the bugs.

Because it is rubbish!
Seriously, it has bugs and is not properly thought out yet.
Delete it and go back to IE6 or try Mozilla Firefox.
You can delete it through control panel, then delete Windows IE7 from the list, it will automatically revert to IE6

Get rid of it it's dodgy.
Click start
then click Set Program Access and Defaults
a new window will appear
then click Change or Remove programs
then just scroll down and remove it.

Delete it and go back to your previous IE.
IE7 is not yet free from a lot of bugs.
