Well no matter what kind of bar he went to, if he has large gaps of memory missing from the night, and his rear is extremely tender, then anything's possible.
I talk with girls all the time who have large gaps of memory missing and something not quite right down there. They usually go to the doc and then find out something happened that night that they weren't aware of. Men get raped that way, too.
I would encourage your friend to go to the local emergency room and get checked out. It can be difficult for men to go to the emergency room with this kind of concern. I would suggest that he utilize the local rape crisis center advocates. They will stay in the ER with him and it will discourage stupid and ignorant questions by the docs.
It's really up to him what he does from this point on, though. He's the one who has to decide whether or not something could have happened against his will. Don't pressure him either way. Just lay out his options and let him make the decision.

maybe he should have slown down with the drinking, this wouldnt have happened if he would have had some common sense and had known when to stop drinking
i dont approve of people taking advantage of intoxicated people but i think that both are to blame. the guys taking advantage being sober its a totally different story but i suspect they were both intoxicated so neither of them cant really be held more responsible for what happened than the other. both of them were responsible for what happened

It is possible. But there may be other things that are going on. The excuse of "I was so drunk last night that I can't remember a thing," He may be hiding some things from you and himself.
And assuming that he did have anal intercourse, I hope his partner wore a condom.
