Yes, there are quite a few and I am listing just three of them besides the first one which may be out of print.
Hints for Self Culture by an Indian author, Har Dayal. It might be out of print but it is well worth searching the Internet for a used copy.
You have already received the names of many popular books from others.
I suggest three recent books which can broaden your knowledge and improve your personality,
1. Guilt is the Teacher, Love is the Lesson by Joan Borysenko, PhD.
Joan is the author of the New York Times best seller, Minding the Body, Mending the Mind.
2.Life Mapping by Brian & Sangeeta Mayne.
To give you an idea of what it is all about, I am quoting first two sentences from the first para of page 35.
"The human brain is more powerful than a computer. We possess mental abilities that science has only just begun to explore and other abilities that are still a complete mystery."
3. The World in 2020 by Hamish McRae
.
It has received good reviews by Sunday Times, the Economist and Sunday Telegraph.
Each of these books are thought-provoking in their own fields. All of them are available as paperbacks at affordable prices.
Maybe you already have Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English. It comes with a CD Rom and gives you meanings of American and UK English. If not, please keep it in mind.
