Ipswich has a population of approx 100000 people why has the BBC focused on religion on the TV showing about 30 people in a church praying, and interviewing vicar's etc.

The Church has done more in history to hurt working girls than ANY other group.

When the situation dies down and we look towards legalising brothels WHICH IS THE ONLY SOLUTION to protect these poor unfortunate women, let's see where our wonderful religious people stand then.

The Church of England have suppressed the people for centuries.

And the BBC will soon have an anti red light district item making news, interviewing religious freaks.

finally someone talking actual sense. its so hypocritical and contradicting of them but then that's what their bible and religion is based on, and what they do best! apart from trying to run peoples lives and take peoples money.

prostitution should be legalised and that is something that needs to be focused on now that there's yet another tragedy which could have been prevented if the women had the police on their sides to keep them safe.

its some of the religious nuts who are the criminals, not women who sell their bodies.
i hate some of what the Christians stand for and allot of them don't practise what they preach, even some priests have been convicted of child abuse. they just cant be trusted and should stop hiding behind their religion which they think makes them appear to be good honest people, when allot of them are not.

I cant watch the news and cant listen to much either because it is always re-presented with a side/edge and pushing contrary feelings to feel and opinions to have which can never be resolved. So you asked why? I am not sure you reallly were asking why as you had a very good counter arguement.

Anyway to answer I think the reason why is that the media has by custom got itself into a place where it has to be present for the public and keep re-framing all external experience in order to keep its effect on the audience, command peoples attention, and serve itself.

I dount that it has anything to do with religion - just something, another tool to bring into the mix to make peopel angry, outraged, calmed, - anything so long as they keep viewing to see what happens tommorrow.

I dont have a tv but was at the dentist yesterday and saw Sky T.V news it was really silly.

I agree with you the C of E is a conservative organisation
this isnt news, and so is the media. I think that they want your outrage it keeps them alive.

I wasn't aware that religion played any part in the slaughter of these unfortunate women. As far as I know, Sky news, BBC News 24, channel 4 news and even the local news channels have kept such things out of it.

I think that your statement about religion and the church having caused much harm to such women stands up to scrutiny but then to say that you support the Salvation Army who, granted do not have churches as such but are religious in their believes and doctrine, and with the same breath attack that very principle, seems a bit hippo critical.

All well made points imo.

I can't give you any additional answers or information because I wouldn't second guess the BBC. Relgion at the BBC is still a well funded department.. and I presume they try and look at any story as a case for their "religious" coverage.

I totally agree with you and they do it because its gives the BBC a good reputation with the CofE it gives the impression of 'look how concerned we are'

I think it may have had more of an effect if they interviewed locals and they expressed their worries and opinions as it is easier for us as viewers to associate ourselves with them.
