...while US actors appear to have had one or two acting lessons?
It's not all down to bigger special effects.

Compare and contrast, if you will, ITV's shite-on-a-stick Afterlife with BBC's Medium recently...

Or even blinking Blake 7 with Space 1999 for criminy's sake...

If you need any more convincing, consider the implications of swapping Billie Piper and Gillian Anderson... how different would those shows be?

Is it just a funding issue, as we do have some fine actors??

Sir Ian did a mean Gandalf and you can't fault Picard.

As the only British science-fiction fan awake at 9am (actually, they stay awake late - I stay awake super-late and haven't been to bed yet :-D), I'd say you're dead right. We have one or two sci-fi/fantasy gems, both in terms of actors and shows, and the rest is cack. That said, I started with Star Trek, when aged about 14, which I consider unbeatable, so I have a hard time liking any other sci-fi shows.

Not relevant but funny - deoderant companies tend to avoid advertising in between segments of sci-fi shows.

Perhaps the british don't take it as seriously.

Where are the american equivalents of Doctor Who, Red Dwarf, Hitch Hikers Guide or even the DiscWorld series of books?

it particularly is a pity "Sarah Connor" became axed. exciting, interesting series. yet "Heroes," which has been in the sh*tter for over a season, is going on. Fox ought to have given it a lil extra time -- the Christian Bale action picture is going to restore activity in the franchise. i'm unlikely to be too no longer ordinary on "American Idol," nonetheless. I appreciate it for what it particularly is and it particularly is a large lead-in for one in each and every of my well-liked new series, "Fringe." at situations it relatively is sweet to have one huge, truthfully-fed on hit human beings can rally around. i'm apprehensive NBC won't renew "Medium," what with the huge-chinned, skunk-haired comedian (sorry, Jay) getting a on a regular basis 10pm application. "Medium" is so underrated -- the perfect blend of horror, fable, and genuine-life drama.
