these are the general steps.

Your computer cannot catch a virus, it is the work of an anti-virus. Since a virus was detected, there must be some anti-virus present in your computer. If you can't find that anti-virus, then download this one ( It is free ), update it and run a system scan. The virus, if it is still present, will be removed.
AOL Active Virus Shield :http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivirus/freeav/index.adp

It is NOT advisable to have more than one anti-virus on a single computer, so download this one if you CANNOT find the anti-virus present on your computer. Some popular anti-viruses are Norton, McAfee, AVG, Avast, Kaspersky, BitDefender, AntiVir, PcCillin, NOD-32 etc. See if your computer has got any software by this name.
