I'm currently a biology teacher major but have been thinking of changing to a different grade, but looking at my college's degree plans their not very specific about the grades. I'm not sure which grades head start includes or which primary grades include, I know that middle is 6th - 8th and secondary is 8th, 9th - 12th. Does anyone know the exact grades?

It depends on the school district. In most places I've worked, head start is for infants through 3-year olds, pre-school is 4-year-olds, the primary grades are Kindergarten through 4th, 5th-8th is considered middle school, and then 9-12 is high school. Like I said, though, it differs from place to place.

Where I live Head-start is pre-school for 3-4 year olds. The primary grades are kindergarten through 5th. 6th starts junior high or middle school.

Headstart is a federally funded PRESCHOOL program (Pre-K, ages 3-5). Most educational literature uses the terms elementary (K-5/6) and also "primary grades" (K-3) and "intermediate" (gr. 4-6).
