not exactly they make money by charging those who wish to put any kind of advertisment on their site that is how they make money.
the more popular the site is the more money they make through charging high prices for advertisments.

Have you not noticed the dozens of ads gracing the pages of Yahoo's various interests----the homepage---the messenger---the various pages that develop through the search engine read outs ?? This is not to but mention ---but--- the pages of Yahoo mail and mail beta ---etc etc etc --- you're looking at millions in ads here---- NOW---enter the interests that have just recently developed with the opening of the new partnership with AT & T in the ISP business--- these are but a few of the money makers for the mega business known as Yahoo !!!

well, it's all free. They get the money from people who wants to put ADS and they have support from other companies too (sponsors) This is not biology. This question is more to business
