First, its just not south india..even in the US you have actor turned politicians (like ...Reagan, Arnold). Philiphines also has many actor turned politicians.
Telugu, Tamil and Kannada have a strong regional film industry.
And their movie connect to local population with local issues and events. Actors use this connect with people to their political career.
The other regions do not have a stong local movie industry. Their movies come from Bollywood, Bombay. So there is no connect. And so its difficult for a bollywood actor to get into politics...but you still have Govinda, Sunil Dutt, Satrugan Sinha, Jayaprada, Raj babbar, Hema malini....they are politicians too
Literacy rates have nothing to do with this..if it were then Bihar, UP should have seen a Hero-Chief Minister.

Worship actors start from MR.MGR time.because he was only the first man in film industries that act real in life also for helping poor people.He spend his most assets for poor peoples.In south (not in kerala) was UN-educated that
time.for MGR this popularity helps him a path for famous politician.As you know that is a only way to make more money.So this business attract to other state like Andra and karnataka,for example in Andra NT Rama Rao,and in Karnataka Mr...........(don't remember his name,he was kidnapped by Veerappan) are similar to MGR story.
so this still happening in south village side who are UN-educated.
The worship for actors is a first step to politics.

This happens mostly in Tamilnadu where MGR is Appa (father) and Jayalalitha is amma (mother) and Kushboo is goddess, can you remember the people built a temple with her as an idol.

THe people in down south have not seen struggle,invasion, wars as the people of north had seen .they dont have real heroes in life so they go far movie heroes.

Coz they are crazy .... They worship Actors, Actresses , Politicians ......... and to be honest their actors look like fat middle-aged men .... and to see them dancing with young girls is not so funny , its scary
