Most of the time people who think they have insomnia are just worried about something or have a problem they can't figure out.
The solution is to talk it out with someone else.
However, if you are self medicating with alcohol or weed, the problem will become worse. Besides not being able to sleep, when you finally fall asleep you find yourself waking up at 5 AM and not being able to sleep again.
True insomnia is due to the body's inability to produce enough melatonin. This is a hormone your brain produces to tell your body to sleep. The trigger for it is photoreactive. That is, when it gets dark, your brain produces the melatonin.
In our modern world, it seldom gets dark because we just turn on the lights.
If you are lacking melatonin, the effect would be life long. The melatonin trigger is not something that comes and goes.
With that being said, you can get melatonin at any health food store. This type is a plant hormone.
It's not a drug, so it isn't addictive or even habit forming.
It is available in 3mg or 5mg doses.
It's even available in a slow release version.
I would try the 3mg size. They come as little tablets or as gel capsules.
There is also a form that looks like a large aspirin. Don't buy this type as it has too many other useless ingredients.
Take two 3mg tablets about 30 to 45 minutes before you go to bed.
It's not a drug, so don't expect it to knock you out. It just helps your body do what it's supposed to do naturally.

If you are trying to cure insomnia, you have probably been trying for a long time. Most people we see with insomnia in our clinic have tried just about everything else before resorting to hypnosis.

But hypnosis is the obvious way to cure insomnia because it deals directly with the cause of the problem - lack of relaxation.

There are four ways to cure your insomnia,
1.change your diet and exercise routine
2.improve your sleeping enviroment
3.alter your sleeping schedual
4.consider medical treatments and behavioral techniques

wish you have a good sleeping after read this!

You could be have trouble sleeping because you are worrying about something. Are you lying down wishing you could get some sleep only to find that your mind keeps on keeping on. It doesn't stop. When this happens to me I write down in a book the things that I keep thinking about. In the morning or when I have time, perhaps as I am trying to go to sleep the next night, I read thru my notes and try to answer the problems.

I also listen to relaxation music via my mp3 player and I find that this also helps me to relax enough to go to sleep.

Warm milk helps also but you need to like milk.

Kim, you can be insomniac or there may be other reasons for missing sleep. Prepare yourself mentally an hour before going to sleep , that once your head touches the pillow you are going to feel sleepy. Don't watch T.V. before going to bed, visual excitement is bad for your brain. Do deep breathing, drink a cup of hot milk and cover your eyes either with your arm or a piece of cloth after lying down.....Lo and presto! you will be snoring in no time.

As an experienced massage therapist, I know of several solutions than generally work--relaxation massage, herbal teas, long relaxing baths, and light dynamic exercise. Free massage for you if you're nearby in California.

Another suggestion is attempting to read the Internal Revenue Code. That will really put you to sleep!!!

I'll be glad to hear from you if you want to chat more about specifics.

exercise and listen to music. Exercise is to wear yourself out. then listening to music makes you get that deep feeling of sleepiness. But if you haven't slept for days then you have insomnia. Or take a sleeping pill one night but then try not to take it again the other night and see if that helps.

I have this all the time. I think I am an insomniac. I do take a tea, and get cozy, read a little, then this works for me after I've relaxed myself some: - I never hear the end of it, I'm asleep by then.
