I heard that they take everything but the engine block unless its's cracked or blown and then build from the engine block, is this true. Also what would be a going price for all this?

in a nutshell, they tear the engine down to the bare block, and will then inspect the engine for cracks, gouging etc.during this step if the cylinders will usually be re-honed to make sure theyre smooth.if needed the cylinders will be overbored so that theyll be smooth. generally the engine block will then be cleaned in a "hotbath" to clean the passageways and journals of all gunk n grime. once this is completed the engine will be reassembled with new gaskets/seals,pistons,crank,camshaft,pushrods,etc.if the engine was overbored, the engine will be rebuilt using oversized pistons/rings etc to maintain the integrity so that compression will be correct. after the reassembly is complete, the engine will go through a test to ensure all the gaskets and everything are sitting correctly, and that the engine runs. once this is done, the engine is reinstalled

It's much easier to trade the old engine for something like a Jasper long block. Then you have a factory rebuilt with a good warranty that was done by a company with decades of experience.

Purchase a rebuilt engine (or long block create engine) with a warranty. Also, you may receive a credit for your old engine.

These days you are better of to buy a "long block" from the parts store. 1 it is often cheaper 2 it is warranted, some up to 100,000 miles

it is easy to buy a kit thats comes with everything you need, just got to your local auto parts store and tell them what you need they will help.I would not recommend doing the rebuild yourself cause it takes many hours and allot of knowledge about engines to just jump into a rebuild. If you take the motor to a shop to have it done just bring in the whole motor to make it easy on the mechanic.
