Maybe start up a casual conversation with the employee and see if you can ask the employee how the grandmother is doing and see if you can get some information that way.
Of if you felt comfortable, tell them outright that you want to get a gift but you want to make sure it will make her happy....

What about a nice blanket or a specialty food tray? Perhaps gift certificates to a theater or a similar such thing. Maybe to a nice spa or hair salon?

It is so hard to know without knowing where her interests are.

Maybe gift certificates to a nice restaraunt?

Hope that helps. I can't think of anything else!

If they are meat eaters a Honey Baked Ham from the Honey Baked Ham Company is always appriciated. They have Turkeys, Roasts and fixin's too. I don't buy Ham or like it much but I will eat one of these babies...they are soooo goood. Look 'em up online.

How about a ready-cooked Meal Package from the local Grocery Store? (You know -- the Turkey already cooked with Sides and a Dessert).

Gift certificates are always welcome but so is a box of chocolates (assuming she is not diabetic) or sugar free candies.

A nice pair of slippers is always a good thing to have as well as a good book or a Video.
