I've noticed in all my WS classes there are always only 1 or 2 guys out of 30 students. Why do you think this is?

I'm a girl and I don't think it would be creepy, but it would be weird. You'd be the only guy there, so it couldn't be anythign but weird. There's nothing wrong with taking a woman's studies class if you're a guy. Since you're Soc major, you have a reason to be there anyway. But lots of times the women in those classes are crazy feminazis anyway. They might not be the type you'd want to go out with anyway. Although, you should still take the class if you want to because you would learn a lot, and you might get lucky. You probably will get single out by the professor, but it probably won't be too bad. Just make sure you don't get a really millitant feminist teacher.

I'd say that it's out of the ordinary, but not inappropriate. I think that guys often aren't interested in Women's Studies simply because they're not women. Also, I think they feel a little threatened by it because of so many negative stereotypes that are out there about feminism. Also, since men have higher status in our society than women, they have the luxury of ignoring the fact that they have higher status.

I don't think it's weird. However, the dearth of male students in your classes could probably be attributed to the stereotype that males may be avoiding -- that someone majoring in WS could be queer or someone whose masculinity was in question. I would think that it would take a man who is very secure in his masculinity to major in Women's Studies. Not a lot of those these days so don't be surprised.

It's not weird, it just goes against gender barriers.

Men are socialized to strive for success in the sciences and mathematics areas; after this kind of training, women's studies is both an economic and intellectual step down. Also, the majority of men are not concerned with the gender-based patterns of inequality or success which do not concern them.

The guys think they're going to get women, but then they realize that the feminazi teachings are converting all the women into man-hating lesbians, so it doesn't work out.

I've never heard of a male majoring in it.

maybe it was the only class that fit into their schedule, or maybe they are interested in the topic, who knows.

there's always some weirdos who have weird fascinations with things.

Because most men think they can control everything. Those 1 or 2 men are learning how to interact better with women. They gain emotional, physically (for those really close 1 on 1 study times) and mentally. How else could Bill Clinton woo all those women to vote for him.
I believe the old addage is "know thy enemy?"

It might be to fulfill a requirement or for research or it's the only thing that fits his schedule. Or he's trying to get a date.

Why not ask him? :)

I'm sure their reasons are very much like your own. Why not ask these men, let them know your true interest and you may make some very close friends.
