I have had luck "rolling" the flaps open with a pencil or pen. Just slip the pencil or pen between the flap and the envelope and slowly roll it until the glue lets go.
I have also had luck with a pot of boiling water. Usually, I had to use the roll method also.
Did you know that WalMart carries envelopes in a lot of different sizes? It would be easier to buy new envelopes than to go through all that work.

At secretarial college I was taught to open sealed envelopes with a pen. You roll the pen back and forward between the envelope and the flap being carefull not to tear the paper. This was for when you sealed the envelope and needed to put something else in. If its too messy, use new envelopes.

Simple solution! If you have an iron or a steamer crank it up. Hold seal over steam and within 5- 10 seconds you should be able to open envelope if it doesn't open by itself. Also works on stamps

Believe it or not, my dad taught me. He was Air Force and made a bet I couldn't tell if he had opened an envelope or not. Well,
I lost. He showed me by turning on the teakettle and when the
steam came out, he took a table knife and started gently lifting at one end and kept lifting the glued edging from one end to the other, all the time keeping it over the steam. Trust me, it has come in very handy at times! LOL

Boil a pot of water and hold the envelopes over the steam. It will loosen the seal. I store my envelopes in a zip lock back to keep the humidity out. It keeps them from sealing themselves.

i have tried this my self. just float the envelope in a bucket containing water at room temperature such that the pasted portion faces the water for couple of minutes. take it out and try opening. it will work. it even works for stamps, pp size photos.

put them over a pot of boiling water and the glue should soften, but you may need to reglue the regular folds as well. not sure, you might try ironing them and see if that heats the glue up enough to pry the flap up.
