There are no more new M3s. The mark-ups on them weren't terrible; I got a new 2005 for $2-3K below sticker. Prices varied by area (higher in warm-weather places like CA or FL), but the dealer prices were very close to sticker.

Your best bet now would be CPO from a dealer. The new 335i is comparable in terms of power, but not performance (handling, braking, etc). I haven't heard a set date for the e92 M3 (the V8 model), but 2008 has been thrown around, and mark-ups for the brand new model will be higher.

Just to correct what was said by others, BMW never offered dealers incentives to get rid of M-cars, and SMG cars are as (if not more) desirable as stick cars, and they out-perform stick cars on the track. The ultra-desirable CSL (Europe only) was SMG only.

You are going to have a lot of trouble finding a 2006 M3 coupe at the dealership now. Back in August, BMW gave dealers a huge amount of money to get rid of all their M3's. The inventory went away fast and the only cars left are M3 convertibles. The only coupes you may find are SMG's which are not very desirable, nor do they drive well.

Here is something to consider; BMW now sells a 335 Ci which has only 33 hp less than an M3. The new M3 is coming out in Feb 2008 or so. The 335 Ci can keep pretty close to an M3 right now and the cost is considerably less.

I wouldn't consider an M3 now. Wait until the 2008 comes out and get a monster!

Good luck.

You will end up paying around 60K for a new M3 coupe. They only make a limited amount of them, and so they always sell for well over the MSRP. A lease for an M3 I think goes for around $1300/month for a 10k miles per year lease. It actually makes more sense to buy them, than lease.

IMHO, if you are looking to get the best deal, your best bet is to buy one that is 2 years old. You will get the best bang for the buck. I purchased a 2002 M3 in 2004 for 40K with 26K miles.

Well, I was gonna answer but see there are already some great comments. I'll leave it at that!

And good luck finding one. They should be all sold out. Go to your local dealer and ask him to do an inventory search. They will search the national inventory to see what they can come up with.
