I can use and see whats on the screen if I put a light up to it, but otherwise it is completely dark.. as if the light just shut off.. It's bright for the first few seconds when starting up, then goes dark... I do need some answers soon, since i'm in china currently.. Not sure what to do now, need Your help! thanks..

It happened when it was hibernating, and i pressed a random key, to start it back up again..

it's the lightbulb that lights up the screen. The same happened to me a while a go. Pray that your computer is still in warranty period, because those light bulbs cost a fortune.

i searched on yahoo to see if anyone else has this problem, i have the same computer, dell inspiron 1150 and the screen started going dark around 3 days ago, if i close the computer and open it again it works for a few min, but then goes dark again...and i too can also see that the computer is not shutting down the graphics are still there....i wish i knew how to fix it, but thanks for the tip on the power supply i will now try not to charge it when im using it...

Try adjusting your brightness settings. Look for a function key on the keyboard (usually in a different color) that has a sun, lightbulb, or something similar.

If all else fails, try connecting it to a regular computer monitor and use it that way. When you get back, call Dell.

If you can't stop the system from turning off the display in the POWER section of Windows Control Panel, then you need a new HV florescent panel driver board.

The power settings may be turning off the display prematurely.

the lcds back light burned out

u need neew lcd

well...that just means the backlight is dying. you need a new LCD.
