I wouldn't worry about it. Most blokes have some kind of geeky habit or hobby........look at these guys who put huge model railways in their attic and then dress up to play with them for hours on end.
Have you heard of Jonathon Ross? He is an avid comic book nut and proud to say so........I don't think many people would think of him as a nerd.

who cares about being a nerd or a geek. i mean, you won't loose anything even though they'll call you a nerd... you should share your comics to the world so you'll have plenty of money..share your ideas.. it might change the world to a better place.

stand up and be counted, nerd!
It's the way to find people you really connect to. My boyfriend has a $30-$40/week comic book habit (that's just the episodic stories that come out wednesdays, not his collection, which includes valuable comics he's bought at Southeby's.) He has made good friends by being loyal to one very nice comic book store; he and the store owners hang out for dinner and such, often accompanied by their attractive wives and girlfriends (myself among them.) heck, one of them even has a cute baby. You can be a nerd and lead a normal life!
I've been to the San Diego Comic Con for several years now and here are a few things I've learned:
1. There are many, many, many nerds in this world. (the thousands of nerds IN COSTUME at that thing are staggering.)
2. Joining nerd-dom as a semi-nerd is a great boost to self esteem. There's nothing like walking into a huge room filled with very un-in shape men dressed like Jedi warriors to realize that no matter how much you care about which of spiderman's girlfriends he winds up with, you'll never be as nerdy as them.
3. It's cool to be a nerd. There are more and more things geared towards nerds. Everything hip and emo was formerly nerdy. In a few years, you will be the cool old school person who liked comic books forever, not the poser who jumped in when they got super-hip.
4. It's becoming mainstream to like comic books. Witness the plethora of superhero movies and the ubiquity of the serious graphic novel, as well as the entire section of chain bookstores now devoted to anime books. So you are not really even nerdy, just well-informed.
last but not least is reason 5, and as support I offer a personal story:
5. Cute girls who are smart and quirky find boys who read comic books charming. Case in point; Lalabee once dated a very cute boy, very nice, but he was troubling in one sense; he was soooo conventional. Dressed preppy, was in a fraternity, liked football (so do I; it's a secret I hid for many years from the hipster friends). Lalabee was hooked, but puzzled. With a lengthy history of boys tearing themselves away from D&D games and startrek re-runs to give Lalabee a call, conventional boy just didn't seem to fit.
Finally, one day, conventional boy says to Lalabee, shyly; "can I tell you something about myself - something kind of embarassing?" "hm?" says I, sweetly apprehensive. "well, it's kind of - i don't know, something really nerdy about me." "yes?" "well" - mutters conventional boy shamefacedly - "I really like comic books." Lalabee has to say at that moment a wave of utter relief mixed with a surge of "gosh you are soooo cute" washed over her. "I knew there had to be a reason I liked you!" she cried. "thank goodness, you were just hiding your inner nerd!"

Not a nerd--a geek. And you should embrace your geekness proudly. There are many of us out there--in groups even. Comic geeks, anime geeks, cartoon geeks, RPG geeks...the list goes on. Do what you want, and don't worry so much what others might think.

Unless you are someone famous, the entire world probably doesn't care. If you want to share with your friends and family, there's nothing wrong with that.
