Is this a virus of some sort? I put it in my "restricted sites" list, but it and some others keep poping up randomly, even after I have pop ups blocked. Thanks for suggestions.

It sounds like adware. Try these scans to remoe it.

All of these are ones that I personally use and all are free.

Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

Great Question and I'll be happy to help you with the problem until it's solved. If your browsers "Start page" is set to go directly to that site whenever you pull up a page, you can change your homepage preference by going into your control panel, internet options folder. The first item you'll see will allow you to change your start page to any site of your choice or use "blank" to keep it from going to any site until you and you alone choose to go there. It's unfortunate, but if that's not your particular problem, you've picked up a Browser Hijacker that has taken over your pages and yes, it will keep sending you to sites against your will. If this is the problem you're having, hit me on yahoo messenger on dumbbutt4321 and I'll help you with the problems until they're solved. Larry Radio Shack 01-9590. Dont use IE, use Firefox instead, much more secure. Scan for spyware with a few antispyware programs, there's a good free list here http://www.basicspywaretips.com/getridofspyware.html maybe that will get rid

first, get rid of internet explorer. there are so many security loop holes and flaws, i pretty much stopped counting. download mozilla firefox. it's security far surpasses that of IE. also, you will notice a greater decrease of pop ups. you may also want to run a spyware/antivirus software. i highly recommend AdAware SE Personal. All the others such as Norton, or Symantec, or McAffee pretty much suck. They waste valuable CPU cycles and eat up memory, making it a fairly inefficient software. You may want to set up a firewall. I suggest Zone Alarm. They offer a free personal firewall download.

FireFox - http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

AdAware - http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5

Probably a spyware/adware infection. Run Ad-Aware to remove it.
