He tries to go AWOL in "Mail Call" [2/23/74].
Hawkeye: Trap, leaving a war in the middle is very upsetting to those who invited us.
Trapper: Hey, if I don't like a movie, I get up and leave. If I don't like the war, I'm going!
Hawkeye: Aw, c'mon, you gotta stick around and see how it ends.
Trapper: Oh, but it doesn't end, it's continuous! When they're finished here, they take it on the road. I can pick it up anytime, anyplace

Trapper talked about going AWOL once, but Hawkeye managed to keep him from doing it. I believe this happened in the first season. He was shipped home in either the second or third season after earning enough "points" for a discharge. I do not remember which specific episode, but it was just a few shows after Colonel Blake was killed while going home.

No, he got a letter from th Army saying that he had done his service and he was being sent home in like 2 days. It was at the same time that Hawkeye was on r and r so they never got to say goodbye. Hawk tried to follow his to the airport but just missed him and then picked up BJ who was coming in to replace him. Dont know which season but i know that was the first episode of that season.
The person that was really AWOL that i can recall was Frank when he was gone past his leave and got a mental health discharge as a result.
