Wow, I would not be going to that doctor I dont think he should be impossing his beliefs on someone. Maybe it is because he is a male & doesnt understand the joy of a mother to be. Just tell him you really want to know & dont see a reason you should not know

It's really non of your doctor's business if you want to know the sex of your baby....Only reason I can think of...is if you have had a test done, or sono done already....and it shows that the baby has both sexes....but I really doubt that...that is pretty rare...
If I were you I would be changing doctors...
The 1st doctor I went to with this pregnancy was always yellin at me about my weight and that I was losing and not gaining....I am the kind of person that just DOES NOT gain weight...no matter how much I eat...and then throw having an active 5 yr old boy to chase after and morning sickness on top of that...so at 5 months along (a little before....17 weeks)....I changed doctors....and I couldn't be more happier with my doctor I have now..

the decision is up to you. I wanted to know. . . and was going to find out as soon as the doctors here said they could tell. Lil guy kept turning and showing it off when I had some tests done to check chromosomes. . . so I ended up finding out really early.
I don't think the dr should show their opinion. It isn't their baby, it is yours. More preparation if you find out now and more surprises if you don't. But, a new baby is so exciting, finding out the sex won't make it seem like there is nothing to be excited about.

I would seriously change doctors ... or at least use a different doctor for future pregnancies. This is supposed to be a fun time for you. And I certainly enjoyed finding out the gender of my first two (girls).
My midwife is golden and I can't imagine seeing someone who isn't a nice and supportive like her!
And by the way, I changed twice until I found her for my first child. I am so glad I did!

Well, if he does the ultrasound. Tell him it's really none of his business whether or not you find out the sex of the child. The issue is not ethical or medical, so he should kindly keep that in check.

I wonder what your docs reasoning for not knowing the baby gender is. That makes no sense.

if hes an old-fashioned doc there may be more things you won't see eye to eye on.
if you want to know the sex he has to tell you if he can see from the u/s.

if there is nothing wrong with him other than that your lucky, however, it is very unprofessional to try and press your opinions on pt's or their families that is why most medical professionals won't give even solicited opinions. "i can't tell you what i would do........"
