I am currently suspended for driving in Virginia. I am going to be going to court to get a restricted license, but have been thinking about getting a bike. I'm just wondering if they have restrictions on getting motorcycle licenses. I haven't had any violations for a year, and don't plan on any. I've paid off all my fines, and am eligible to be fully reinstated in one month. Anybody have any info.?

None of the first three answers helped me much. I need to know if i'm eligible, or do I have to wait until i'm FULLY reinstated?

The other posters should take a minute to actually read the question. Yes, if the court grants your restricted license, you can drive a go-kart if you want, just as long as you operate it within the hours specified by the court. (but yes, you do have to get a Class M and I'd highly recommend one of the safety programs offered by one of the community colleges - either NOVA or Germanna, for example). As an aside, last time I checked, Michigan and Wisconsin are the only 2 states that do not participate in the license information network and I've heard stories of drivers who have had their licenses REVOKED going to one of those states and getting a new license.

If you already hold a valid Virginia driver's license without a motorcycle designation, you may add Class M that will allow you to also operate a motorcycle. To obtain this motorcycle designation, you must:

Pass the required vision screening
Pass the motorcycle knowledge exam
Pass the motorcycle road skills test

I do not know about VA but I got a Motorcycle permit with an occupational (restricted) license in WI. Check with the D
V in Va to find out if their rules regarding this are the same.

If Texas topics constrained licenses to drivers at age 17, you'll receive a constrained license. the regulations note in accordance consisting of your age once you're taking the try, no longer a month later.

This is the THIRD question I've had to answer about Virginia Driver's Licenses. I thought that us folks here in Arizona were the worst drivers....lol

Sure, if you get restricted driving one type of vehicle all you have to do is go to Motor Vehicle Branch and get a license to drive a different type of vehicle...NOT!! Suspended is suspended.
