If it's a lot, then heck no. If it's not much, then I'll do it in case the next teacher asks for it...

Unfortunate a situation as it may be that your teacher was arrested, what is really at issue here is the reason you were assigned this homework. Take your teacher out of the equation for just a minute. Look at the homework and ask yourself what benefit you think was intended for you to derive from doing it? It's ultimately your decision to do it or not to do it, but NOT because someone might ask for it later. Do it for your own enrichment or don't do it if you honestly see no value in doing it.

In the "real" world of business, if a department head were arrested, do you think a company would suspend all work assignments? By the same token, schools have certain curricula to which they must adhere in order to be accredited. Your requirements remain the same whether or not you may be assigned a different teacher midway through the school year.

The ball's in your court. Are you still going to play?

Yes. do the homework. If he/she had lesson plans and whoever is in charge appoints someone to replace her, then they will want to know where that homework is. Also, "arrested" doesn't mean they won't be back at the end of break. All they have to do is pay their bond and get out, depending on the charge, the school may choose not to let them go until they have been convicted of the offense- and that will have to wait several months for a court date.

Consider that the teacher could possibly make bail or judged not guilty, he or she would be back on the job. Seems to me that having your homework ready would insure a better grade. What else would you do over the winter break, go shopping?

I would do it because what if he miraculously comes back after the break and snoops for your work? And, they might send a substitute teacher... Some of them can be a little clueless but most will sniff a fish and know that you gotta hand in work.

So what I would do is:
-do it all but don't over do it

Why? Are you trying to get your teacher arrested so you can get out of doing homework? Because you didn't say if this actually happened or if it's hypothetical.

since the whole point of school is to learn, why would it matter if your teacher is in jail? Or if it will never be graded? You'll be better off for doing the assignment. Don't second guess it.

Pssssst! Teachers have been known to use "lesson planners" so there is probably a record of the assignments.
Do the work.....
