Ever since 911 attack, ALL govt agencies and most private companies have beefed up their security and are demaning some forms of security clearance for IT job applicants.

These creates problems for those who don't have clearance, and eliminates lot of opportunites makin' it that much harder to get a job.

I have no criminal record nor do I have any credit problems. How do I get this dog on scecurity clearance??? Is this one of those damnable catch 22 thing?

The only way to get a government security clearance is to be hired by an employer that is willing to give one to you. You cant obtain one by yourself. I had a top secret/sci clearance that the army gave me. Joining the military is the easiest way to get one. I am now a civilian contractor for the army making quadruple doing the same job as the one i did as an e-5.

My husband has security clearance for an IT job he had. The company that hired him actually sent him through the process. It involved answering multiple questions and giving exact time periods for everything. He also went to the local police and had to get a complete fingerprint set.

Contact the job or jobs that you are interested in. Most of the time they send you through the process after a prescreening to see if you fit the job.
