Too much stress and after all of the problems it is hard to look at the spouse as a romantic interest. Relations are to be built on mutual respect and love is to be unconditional if marriages are to work. When a man is torn down by the person closest to him it is very hurtful though we may not admit it! It is hard to look at that woman as a romantic interest because the wall of protection has put distance between the two of you!

I think you've summed it up quite well, actually.
18 yrs of familiarity, roommate relationship, lots o' crap, emotional scars, hurt...yeah, I'd say that doesn't exactly add up to endless nights of life-changing sex, would you?
Let's face it, the old libido has peaked, descended, and taken up residence in the long, low valley of middle-age. So what? It's friendship and unconditional love that keeps us growing old together. Count your blessings, share a few hugs once in a while, tell each other that you love one another at least once every day, and enjoy what little time you have left together.
Life is an adventure. Drink it up.

Boy is Jason an idiot.
A lot of reasons- if you took the hottest girl on earth, and aged her 18 years, she ain't gonna be that hot. Plus the emotional crap can make you feel sick to be around the other person.
I'm not married. Now you know why.

The man feels like he can not control the things going on in his life. The one thing he can control is whether he has sex with his wife. What ever problems you say you have overcame/have not been resolved. With holding sex is a direct result of the hurt and pain he feels toward his wife.

This is in no way meant to be hurtful, but have you changed in any way in the last 8 months. Lost weight? Gained Weight? Changed your hair.
And why the hurt? Is this something that can/needs to be talked out? Counseling? Yes, it does work.
Best of Luck
