I have '94 VW Golf manual transmission. One week ago I had the heating core replaced, and they had to take apart the dashboard, and steering wheel mount, and also cut some wires in order to get to the heating core. The mechanic shop that did this is so shady. I don't want those people touching my car again! Anyway, before this was done, I never had to press the gas for the car to start. Now I have to give a lot. How is this related to the service that was done or is it coincidence, and how can it be fixed?

I bet it's just a coincidence. Plus it's not wintertime, which makes this problem more apparent.

Pumping the gas opens the throttle which allows air to get to the engine, so it doesn't choke. I had a similar problem. If you don't want to put up with this, you need to get your Idle Air Control Valve (maybe $500) replaced at the dealer or cleaned out by a trusted local mechanic (maybe $100). In my case, the problem got worse in cold weather.

Run dont walk to the nearest lawer.
These guys screwed up you car big time. Cutting wires to remove a dash is not the way to install a heater core. There is a better way to install a heater core. What you can do is sue the shop and get it repaired someplace else.
Take it from a professional mechanic these guys are a bunch of jokers waiting to screw up someone elses car.
Get your money back and seak leagle advice.

Pumping increases the pressure inside the engine, making the combustion of fuel possible.
