Yes, simply because they had the audacity and hubris to think they could control the world which led to decline.

No. Whoever you heard that from, doesn't know history. The Roman Empire fell due:
1. Decline in Morals and Ethics
2. Poor Public Health, especially among the wealthy, who began using lead pipes.
3. Unemployment, Farmers who owned slaves out-produced farmers who had to pay their laborers, forcing them to sell their farms.
4. Inflation, this was actually caused by the end of Imperial growth, gold no longer flowed into the Empire.
5. Urban Decay
6. Civil War

Yes. And as a follow-up to the fall of the roman empire comment, even some of those enumerated items correlate with the current state of the nation.

Yes. There are many similarities between our society and ancient Rome. To me the most striking is our similar beliefs regarding the nature of "property".

This is interesting to me because we are gradually witnessing the concentration of ownership in the western world in the hands of fewer and fewer people. This was seen as one of the internal problems of the Roman Empire prior to fracture and disintegration.
