do you have to lower the water pump off of the drive shaft that sits below the motor? it appears i do but maybe there is a better way. The belt isn't broke but cracked bad and slips when the load is heavy.

Unfortunately the pump must be removed to change the belt on your washer. When reinstalling the pump you should insert a screwdriver into one port of the pump to lift the impeller so the screw holes line up on the motor shaft and do not over tighten the screw or you will crack the plastic of the impeller shaft.

I had to replace a belt on a washing machine not too long ago and the instructions were in the bag with the new belt.

It required some disassembly of the machine to get the new belt on. (Mine broke so I didn't have to worry about getting it off!) I think it probably took me at least 2 hours of work to replace the belt. I think part of that was because I thought I saw a simpler way to do it, and eventually had to do it by the book.

Check your appliance store and make sure the instructions come with the belt.

(Frigidaire does not have instructions on line, but they do have a customer service link if you wanted to try getting ahold of them.)
