Yes, I baby talk to them, or at least talk in "the dog voice", which is a little higher pitched and faster than I normally talk.
I also sing to them, but not in public...at least not that I mean to. I take the tune from a popular song and change the words to words that the dogs know, lots of "good dogs" and thier names, nicknames, pet phrases I like to use with them and other nonsense stuff. They really love it, tilt their heads back, close their eyes a little.
But sometimes, during the summer, we'll be in the car with the windows down, stop at a light or something and I suddenly realized that I'm singing to the dogs, and everyone else around me also has thier windows open. I just smile...it's embarassing as all get out...mostly folks just laugh...and I blush and smile...

I haven't had a dog for a long time but that doesn't stop me from baby-talking to other people's dogs in public. I just will always have a special place in my heart for dogs. I also do the same thing with my neighborhood squirrels but I do have to be so much sterner with them because of their tendency to run out in front of cars. I think I have started making some headway with the squirrels in my neighborhood because I have begun noticing many of them looking before they cross and I thing they(the older squirrels) are beginning to educate the younger squirrels in this regard.

I have tried it one time and I swear my dog looked at me rolled his eyes and jumped in the back seat. No kidding that dog was mad at me. Never did it again.
