First, it IS okay to own every shoe you've ever seen and fallen in love with. But when your collection gets that big, you start to have trouble finding the right pair! That's where backups come in. Backups also lessen the effects of wear and tear on the shoes you wear most often. So here's the formula:
(shoes you loved at neimens+ shoes you loved at nordies+ leather shoes that fit you perfectly, handcrafted in italy+ etc...) x 2

When you start tripping over the shoes that have no place to be put in the house you have too many. I have about 6 pairs of shoes. My wife has about 100 pairs of shoes. I think I have too many --- I know she has too many!!! I cure those things which each time I trip over them.

If you don't wear each pair at least once a month. I think the average adult should have about four pairs of shoes, one for working out (running shoes), one for just walking around, one pair of dress shoes, and one pair of shoes for work (maybe two pairs for work).

Men need 3. One for yard work, one for sports and one pair for taking you to nice places.
For women, 4, 350 is reasonable.

i don't know but i think i'm real close to having too many shoes.
still doesn't stop me from buying more-my husband gets so aggravated-i've completely taken over our closet.
you can never have too many!!
