One trick is to spend the day looking at clocks. See the time, look away, then look back at the clock. If it shows the same time with both looks, you are awake. After doing this all day you may dream that you are looking at a clock. In your dream you will look away then look back at the clock. When you see that it is suddenly 3 or 4 hours later, you will know you are dreaming. Being aware you are dreaming is the first step toward lucid dreaming.

Can you remember your dreams? Yes? Than you can remember that you are a "fake" participant in them while you are in them and can do what you want. You just have to practice remembering that it is a dream while you are dreaming, and then the rest follows.
No?
Look up "Lucid Dreaming" on the website, and there are books and classes you can attend, and they provide some tips.

go to sleep and while dreaming make yourself aware that you are, try imagining in your dream that your looking at your hand in real life, which takes a lot of practice, but once you get it, it's very fun and you can guide your dream to what you want and desire. some psychologists put on googles on sleepers that light up on their eyes while their sleeping, having them lucid dream.
