OK, I think something's stuck in my nose and I have no idea how it got in there. But last week, I had some nasal discharge from one of my nostrils that is clogged up and when I did nasal irrigation, I flushed out something that looks like a ball of black thread. Yesterday, I had the same sensation in my nose and I nasal irrigated but it won't come out, I think it went further down into the back of my throat. What should I do? If I go see a doctor, what would he do? Would the procedure be complicated and expensive? I'm short of cash right now.

I have to ask--- who put the ball of black thread in your nose? A mad girlfriend? sorry for the pun.

Go to the ER as soon as possible-- not your gp because the ER will have the instruments needed to properly irrigate your nose and to numb your nostrils in order to get the proper utensils up there-- you wont feel a thing- you'll be numb. You may have inhaled the thread while sleeping on a pillow but in anycase- it can lodge in there and cause an infection. The ER will not charge you if you dont have insurance and cant pay but either way- you need to get checked out ASAP because your irrigation technique may have infected the string and can cause you to have a sinus infection, an eye infection and a throat infection.
