For more of a fantasy book, try the Goddess Of The Night, the first book of The Daughters Of The Moon series. I loved those! Or if you are feeling up to a larger book, try Eragon. I recommend reading the book before seeing the movie. Or try Abarat, by Clive Barker. If you like more realistic books, however, try Flipped. Happy reading!

I would say it depends of your own nationality, interests, and culture. Reading people who writes in your mother language is specially enjoyable.

But a good start is reading classics or compilations of stories. Try Rudyard Kypling: He's got both. He wrote The Jungle Book, which indeed is so much better than Disney's.

I would say Mowgly from Disney is a hidious and inmature boy; besides Rudyard's conception, where Mowgly is a human who really thinks, learns, feels, and makes mistakes. I would also reccomend it because Mowgly is about your age. I loved it, really... It's not too long, and the part of the tiger, Sheerkhan, is just the begging.

A really good site to look at when you're looking for something new to read:

http://www.professornana.com

(check out some of the book lists on the menu on the left, like the "2006 Books of Note")

Also, "Professor Nana" has a blog, where she talks about what she's been reading lately:

The Oz books are great! Maybe a little below your reading ability, 'tho. Can't recall how old I was when I read them.

Hatchet. I can not remember the author, but it was my favorite book when I was your age. I have two copies, but they are put away or I would look up the author.
