"Romance" can happen anywhere.

But, the Internet is a mine field. There are all sorts of weirdos, losers, perverts, and assorted liars out there.

If you insist on using the Internet, go to a reputable matching agency like harmony.com. It will cost you, but the free ones are free for a reason.

Otherwise, surround yourself with people that have the same culture, values, and socio-economic background that you do. You'll find someone...or someone will find you.

It did for us. My husband and I met through an on-line dating service. We had both filled out a questionnaire and the computer sent him my profile as a potential match. We emailed back and forth for several months. Never IM or chat room though. Then we started talking on the phone in addition to emailing. We lived 1850 miles apart so after what seemed like forever he flew out here so we could meet in person. We knew each other so well from our correspondence there wasn't even an awkward moment. We felt like we had known each other forever and now we've been married for 6 1/2 years. I never believed in soul-mates before but I do now.

They do work out, but only a slim amount of them. The reason being is that its so damn easy to make yourself be someone else over the internet and then you aren't what they expect when/if you meet in person. Also, alot of the things in a relationship aren't verbal, but mainly about your actions, so if you are just sitting there, IMing each other and saying how much you love each other, its alot different than going out in the real world, working a job, and providing for said relationship. But! If we aren't talking relationships and just lust, then yes, tons of these happen.

I know several people that have married via an internet dating service. I can say that I know those sites work.

It works no better or worse than Prison Inmate Pen-Pals.

You have no idea who you are talking to on the Internet. People can greatly misrepresent themselves and often do.

It does for some people....I met my husband over 2 years ago on myspace. He was in Iraq and I was in Texas. We met when he came home on his 2-week leave and I waited 4 more months for him to come home for good. We've been happily married for over a year now.

I met my husband online 11 years ago. Just like any other relationship, it's had its ups and downs... mostly up. We talked for 10 months before we ever met. Then we knew we didn't want to be apart any longer.
