It blows my mind to even start thinking about an end or what would be at the end of outer space... Its kinda scary to think about.

Infinity and back again

There isn't really an answer to that question. Essentially, outer space is another name for the universe not including this planet. When you ask "what's beyond the universe", the answer really is "huh"? By definition, the universe is everything, so there isn't anywhere that isn't in the universe. Put another way, the universe is the union of all space-time points; since space and time don't exist independent of the universe, there can be no "beyond".

So, outer space goes forever, in the sense that you can never get to the end.

The universe is contained within a 4D hypersphere. On the surface, at least.

If you reach the end, you end up at the 'beginning', or other side. As you know, there is a limit to a sphere. However, there is no real 'boundary'.

Outer space goes as far as... hmm. Well, the site below says 14bil light years. After that, we won't be able to see it because of the speed of light.

So what it comes down to basically, is the speed of light. From what I've gathered from this article, scientists don't know. This is because it is impossible right now, because the light from distant galaxies is taking forever to get to us. So our measure of the width or length of the universe is off, perhaps infinitely so.

Okay, dear everyone who said 'infinity' or 'forever' or anything like that.

All current indications say the Universe is FINITE. It does not go on forever.

Also, another person pointed out that 'The Universe', by deffinition, is everything. That's incorrect. The Universe's name implys 'everything'. But, by the same token, Atom is rooted in the greek word meaning 'indivisible'. This is obviously either not true, or there was one hell of a heatwave in Nagasaki a few decades ago.

I think it's pretty hard to say how big the universe is, though. You don't really need to know and even with the number infront of you, you can't wrap your brain around it. Honestly, we can't even get a good grasp on how big our galaxy is. Again, we can look at the number, but there's a difference between seeing the number and seeing it in your palm, if you know what I mean.

So, suffice to say, it's ****** huge.

I'm just glad no one said "To Infinity and BEYOND!"

Seriously, if there were even a limit, it could not be comprehended by humans. And if you think about it, we live on a small planet in a galaxy that doesn't even make up a decent percentage point.

If that blows your mind, how about the Big Bang, and the eventual Big Crunch? There are some that say the universe will eventually stop growing and revert back. Course, we'll all be gone by then.

The universe is continually increasing, even now. The initial impetus that the large bang presented has kept this reaction going for just about 14 to fifteen bya. As for no matter if area under no circumstances ends and how a procedures/lengthy/huge that is, right that is a evaluation. the speed of light is 186,000 miles in line with 2d. Going that quickly, it may take mild one hundred,000 years beforehand effectively vacationing from one area of basically our Milky way galaxy to the different. it may take 10 billion years for mild to attain around the area of the 'fringe of the universe.' once you come back to this side, area stops. there is not some thing previous it.

if u believe in the big bang theory, outer space "technically" goes on indefinitely. that's a hard question to answer without talking "total nerd". i won't torture u with that. Let's just say that we couldn't possibly live long enough to travel outside our solar system in our lifetime.
hope this helps.

there are some who ponder the possibility that space might actually be finite...they argue the curvature of space or some other quantum physics stuff....lol...there is a book on this subject that is actually a good read...i might tell you the author .... but then again why should i give her the publicity and put more dollars in her pocket?

Space never ends there is no end, well I think, it goes on for ever. Most of space is empty space.

It may seem impossible but space actually goes on forever! I know how you feel when you say your mind blows!
