Just that we have names for 'kiasu' & 'kiasi'. Every human being/nationality has them, only that they were known by different names. Singaporeans are no different from them, or them from us.

The fiercely competitive environment especially in education, employment makes Singaporean Chinese more "kiasu" than those in other Chinese communities elsewhere. This should not be viewed as negative as it serves like a psychological fuel to always strive to better oneself academically, socially, career-wise.
Of course the government is party to it because they expect the highest standards from its citizens - this is laudable and can only benefit the nation. The values propagated must naturally be of Confucian origin - core values that are universal yet pertinent for the good of society as a whole. These values are lacking in neighbouring countries and what they are today only reflect their shortcomings... and there are plenty of it.

Definitely. I think it is just too ingrained in the culture that people are wanting to win, win all the time... Partly it is government's fault to instill the win win instinct in people, too..
Look at what time they start queueing for something, they queue up the day before!! E.g. when IKEA Tampines open, when new HDB flats or private flats launch, when polyclinic opens..
And look at how they rush in and out of MRT trains as soon as it opens to secure a seat and to 'book' seats at hawker centres and food courts..
How parents move to nearby good schools so just to give their children a place in it..
There are so many more examples to prove it, too many to mention here ..

Yes , many are kiasu, kiasi, sway kuan, protected, bla bla....
Product of a rigid and unimaginative educational system, kiasu/kiasii upbringing by parents who are themselves products of the system.

It is just natural as long as you are a human and a citizen of the world. The only difference is to what degree you want to "su" and "si".
