The purpose of these types of homework assignments is to teach you how to use a dictionary. I don't mean to put you down but just to consider something. For example, the dictionary will tell you what each of these words mean but also if the word is a noun, a verb, an adverb or an adjective. The dictionary will also sometimes give synonyms and antonyms. Suppose you were asked to write a review about the movie "Seabiscuit." Which sentence tells exactly what you want say about Seabiscuit: "Seabiscuit was a good horse." or "Seabiscuit was a champion." Everyone has problems finding the right words to say exactly what they mean, even English Professors. The purpose of the homework is to teach the skill of finding the right word or words to tell your reader exactly what you want him or her to know. Believe me, it is a skill you will need after you graduate and get a job.
