How do you feel about our government secretly torturing innocent people? I mean they look for people because they might have the same skin color as a suspect, but have no proof of them threating our country. I heard they said that they don't consider this torture: Pouring water into your mouth non-stop while your lying down. It's so wrong. Why does it seem that our government can't live up to their own democracy?

Do you really think our govt will want to live up to it's democracy. Sure it's against the law to torture people but we teach soldiers to do it all the time. The way soldiers are trained, they are trained to kill, and not just have the ability to kill but to the point where they kill for fun. We train our troops to be murderers. When you talk about torture you have to understand our government has made perfectly normal people like you or me into a killing machine. Thus, we torture people just to satisfy the sinister urge. The real problem isn't just our govt it's the way the soldiers are trained. When you have a bunch of killers running around a prison full of innocent people what do you expect to happen?

Also torture is a violation of the 8th amendment and this could potentially get people in jail. Unfortunately the govt is run by a series of corrupt monsters and rich people. No one will stop the torture because our govt's solution to the problem is just to throw money at the people that have the power to stop the torture.

It's very wrong. We should be above torturing. It's been proven over and over that when people are tortured they will say anythng to make it stop. A prime example of this is the fact that Osama still runs free. I will never forget that week a year ago November, when in the same week, Bush denied torturing, and yet Cheney was asking Congress for a torture exemption two days later, LOL. Ahh yes, thats the republicans for ya.

People, wake up, what she is talking about is water boarding, and IT is practiced.

I find many things that our government does do not prove to be
"democratic." Our government was simply formed to benefit the wealthy and not to benefit any person that got in their money's way.
It is ludicrous to believe that all those highly overpaid suits are there for the benefit of "the people" nor will they ever be "by the people." That's right up there with the millions of "phone taps" that they did on ordinary middle and lower class people that had no merit or justification. This was foreseen by the author, Thomas Paine, in his book "Common Sense," during the making of the
Declaration of Independence. An incredibly wise man for his times.

there is never a reason or justification for torture....and even people that endured torture in Vietnam state that under torture you will say whatever the torturer wants to hear to get them to stop...so information derived from torture is questionable at best and useless at worst....

The Bush administration is NOT America. They have turned the moral compass of our country on its head and have damaged the US for decades to come. The Cheney torture regime is a fine example of how they have sold the US down the river for their own gain.

They have used fear and lies to blind the American people while they lined their pockets with fortune. Torture and lies is how they will be remembered.

I do believe that somehow, someday America will recover.

Open your eyes! The government is full of liars. They are all the same and they don't represent "America", they represent themselves...the rich, corporate, upper echelan. They only want what's best for them. Especially Bush and his administration. They have managed to make America a joke in world politics.

I hope that all of you indepth thinkers remember your defense of torture, the next time an American is beheaded by some terrorist group. I'm sure that the family of the poor individual will be grateful for your so-called tough stand.

For real unbiased information, check out Amnesty International website. www.amnestyusa.org. You know I wish that not all of the things that are happening in the world are real, (good old USA included)but unfortunately there are some nasty people.
Don't take my word for it, check it out yourself.... :(

Why would anyone want a code of ethics in war?

It's high time for American to fight war by the same rules other countries have chosen.

Being the nice guy isn't saving our soldiers lives, or protecting our homeland.

Rules of war may have worked during the civil war, but since then look at the history books, and the things suffered by American soldiers!

The Democracy you speak of is changing more, and more with every little change in the constitution, amendment, ect...

What are you willing to do to not only live, but have the right to make basic choices for yourself?
