many of the facts and places and history illustrated in the novel are

but the story itself is fiction

No, it's no more than fiction, despite the author's claims.

For a different take on the symbolism in some of Da Vinci's works, look into the novel The Secret Supper. It's fiction, too, but with a more sensible premise.

Just remember, just because it's in a book doesn't make it fact--especially when the book is on the Fiction shelf!

For the most part, the Da Vinci Code is not real. Jesus did not have a child with Mary Magdelan. What is true, however, is the fact that the Emperor Constantine had a great influence in promoting Christianity as mentioned in the book.

da Vinci was a real person... the Mona Lisa painting is real. The book is fiction loosely based on facts.

No, that is why the book is in the fiction section of the bookstore. Many of the facts are real, some are skewed, and some ideas are outrageous, but the work as a whole is an interesting, but fictional story.

There are some facts within in the book but the story itself is fictional and as some other things inside.

As far as what is truth and what is fiction, that is best for you to discover on your own.
