I'd say North Carolina (raleigh or charlotte), or Atlanta. Both areas are low cost of living, and generally have good school systems for the kids. i lived outside DC for 7 years, and we needed to get away too. get out, quick!

I would move to ALaska...Anchorage is a pretty cool town, plus the house prices are cheap, there is plenty of land, and there are virtually no taxes (well at least very little state tax)...also if you live there long enough and establish residency the federal government will send you a tax refund for oil that they take out of the state.

How about somewhere in the midwest. I have lived here all my life and love it (in Missouri) The cost of living seems lower than most areas and the schools are great.

You may want to try going to Smartmoney.com or cnn money. Both have calculators that allow you to see what you need to earn in certain cities. Also, they have listings of the cheapest cities with the highest incomes (in other words lowest cost of living).
