What kind of research? Are you conducting a research study? For that, the internet is not a good way of gathering data, you need live people. Are you researching for a paper? If you are, I would recomend going to your college's library website and using an online database.

I must admit that most people answering the question have no knowledge on how to use the Internet for research. After I took the certification of CIRS certified internet research specialist from AIRS association, I actually learned that finding the information worth incorporating in research needs an online research skill. Just because Google fools us into believing that millions of pages of information are available just for you is pretty deception - an illusion actually. So learn the right skill first before sinking back into the library hole. Try looking for digital versions of books and read online articles, news etc.

What I think is most important is to use accredited institutions, because that would be a primary source. For instance, if you were researching Musular Dystrophy you would want to go the MDA website. There is a bunch of crap on the internet, some of it is just opinion or information that hasn't been researched. You wouldn't want to put that in your paper cause you would look like an idiot. Good luck!

Start by using your library's resources. The biggest mistake is people automatically want to google something but you usually get too many answers and sites that are useless. Your library has electronic resources such as thompson gale, or ebsco host or jstor and those sites offer a world of electronic resources that are credibile and timely.

Use your search engine. Start with a specific subject and from there you will soon find hundreds if not thousands of sites
