i have tried knitting a pair of socks, but when I knit it appears....?

that i'm pulling the yarn in my free hand too tight. is that normal? the yarn just looks too stretched out

You are probably pulling too tightly. Try not pulling and just let the yarn run through your fingers.

It's perfectly normal. It's just a matter of practice. Relax a bit. It may sound silly but if you are tense then your knitting will be too. Personally, I never knit when watching Arnie on TV, my tension goes all over the place.

Relax and keep practicing.
