One of our two goldfish (the 28 cent each kind) is swimming on his side. I noticed that one eye (the one toward the bottom of the tank) looks sunken.
Every site I look to talks about both eyes being sunken in, and the causes they list wouldn't affect just one eye.
What could it be?

Man, I can't believe you people aren't embarrassed to say out loud and to the public that the care you offer your pets is dependant upon their $$ value, or cost!
Pets owners should want to give their pets the best home they can. I don't plan on buying him a fake eye...but I would like to know what went wrong so I can prevent it with future fish.
I hope you don't have this same attitude in your relationships with people.

I love those cheep goldfish!! :) They are usually the ones that I buy, though I am currently taking care of two black moore goldfish that were going to be flushed down the toilet by some people I know because they were sick. :(
Anyway!! (Im so happy to see Im not the only one who buys feeder fish and keeps them as pets!)
The problem with those fish is that they are raised in cramped, unhealthy conditions. You never know what exactly is going to happen with them or what problems they are bringing with them.
They are very hardy fish though! I mean, they did survive in an over stocked tank for a while. :)
(No Salt wont kill your fish if you do the salt dip right. It freaks me out though so I stick to store bought medications personally)
I am not going to try and diagnose your fish but I am going to give you some links that are my saving grace with my goldfish. :) They are easy enough to follow and geared to goldfish owners who need help. Best of luck!! I hope your fish gets better.
http://www.goldfishinfo.com/identify.htm (this one has lists of problems including your floating on the side and all the possible reasons for it.)

The one thing I really learned from reading these pages is that some fish are actually allergic to their fish food. One of those pages suggested trying to feed the fish thawed frozen peas with the outside skin taken off to help give them some extra fiber. My fish love them! Its become a snack for them but it may very well help your fish if that is the problem. If not, your fish will probably like them anyway. Really though, Good luck and take good care of your 28 cent goldies!

sometimes the other fish will try to eat the eyes of the other to kill them. the reason i`m not shure.it my be that the fish are the same sex,or that one is ill and the other wants to kill it to keep from getting ill also.i`ve watched chickens mob just one to kill it and i ca`nt understand why.PH should be between 7-9.a pinch of rock salt sometimes, and the water needs to stay under 75.

in case you keep it in too small a tank without adequate filtration then this is going to likely be a discomfort will look after precise till it dies - which it maximum likely will interior of a few months in case you supply it the right tank (30 gallons) plus a clear out able to turning the water over 10x an hour (round three hundred gallons an hour), ensure the tank is cycled, replace 30% of the water each week and feed it a kind of ingredients consisting of greens and a correct high quality pellet nutrition then this is going to likely be common-peasy. Your first actual job? study up about the nitrogen cycle in tank. information it is the most important to reliable water high quality and strong water high quality is totally the most important the protecting any fish as pets.

something you can do - prepare a bowl of water - stir in a teaspoon of sale - let the water come to room temperature like the tank (20 minutes) then put the fish in ICU -
for ten (10) minutes - then move him back to the regular tank
just may help - no longer than 10 !!!

take the sick fish out....you can keep him in something else until you are sure what is going on one way or the other, but a sick fish can contaminate the water and make you other fish sick as well.
