Would you think they stole it? We live in a townhouse complex and one of our bikes was stolen out of our backyard. 2 months later we noticed our neighbor 2 doors down has the exact same bike. However, the bike was bought at a Wal-Mart 3 or 4 years back... so would you think he stole the bike or just happened to have the same bike and decided to put it outside?

*To clarify.. the bike we had stolen was bought at Wal-Mart 3 or 4 years ago, so we're wondering if he just happened to have bought the same bike.*

Hmmmm......makes you wonder.. Just ask them where they got the bike, but not like in a "I THINK YOU STOLE MY BIKE!" kinda way.. just be like.."That's a nice bike, where did you get it at?? " something like that

Hope this helps!

I would suspect it, but I would be hesitant to make an actual accusation.
If the bike is old enough, there's probably something unique about it - a scratch somewhere on the frame, maybe the seat has a tear in a particular place, spokes often get dull - things like that. If you could get a closer look at the bike and can remember some of these characteristics, that would be great. I would try to get an occasion you could examine the bike discreetly. Then, if it turns out that is the bike, I would take the matter to the police. They'll deny it, of course, but I don't see what else you can do. (Unless you're really sure and you just take back the bike yourself, but that could lead to problems, obviously.)

Who cares? Take the bike, especially if you do not like him or do not know him. If you have not seen it before and it is a 4 year old bike, then he probably stole it. Usually people do not keep a bike inside for 4 years and then decide to stick it outside in the dead of winter. Seriously, steal it back. Even on the off chance that he actually bought the bike, its societal fair play: someone stole your bike, so you steal someone else's and eventually someone will have to steal a bike from the person who stole yours. The only thing is you will never be able to leave it outside again because he might see it....

Go down and have a close look at it. Surely you will be able to recognize it, you know, the scrape where it fell over, or the dented fender. He'll probably say someone left it in front of his place, which might very well be true. It's kind of a sticky situation unless you reported it stolen in the first place. Have some friends standing by, you never know who you're dealing with now days.

Do you have the Serial Number from the Stolen Bike to check against what you see in the Bike Rack?

You cannot assume anything because you really didn't catch him red handed. Best thing to do is forget about the bike; be thankful that that was the only thing stolen and not your identity. If he did steal the bike, there's always karma. ;-)

The laws of probability would tell you that the chances are slim for your neighbor to have bought the same bike as you.

the respond to WHY is everybody's wager, fairly unusual. yet in words of common strategies to circumvent this, get a seat leash to carry down the saddle and seat put up. Get some "locking form" skewers skewers to modify your speedy Releases. those units are available in at low fee with "bolt head" form fasteners, eliminating the want to keep music of more desirable keys and the fee of a lock.
