Can I compress it? Is there anything I can do?

There is a limit to the size of the message that can be sent through hotmail
For free accounts the limit is 1 MB.
MSN Hotmail Plus subscribers get 20 MB.
In this case the size of the message itself counts, too.
This means that all attachments to a Hotmail messages together must not take more space than 1 MB. If you want to send something bigger via Hotmail, try sending it in smaller chunks.

Yes, it's likely the .WMV is >2 Mb which is the limit for Hotmail attachments. If it isn't a lot bigger, say 4 Mb, you may be able to PKZIP or WinZIP compress it into a .ZIP archive.

You might be able to chop it into pieces using Brawn Lads BLjoin (freeware) and then attach the pieces. It would help if the recipient had the program to glue the pieces back together. There is also a DOS utility, "split" which does the same, but you can "glue" all the pieces together using the copy /b filename1 + filename2 + ... filenamesum syntax. Stick with BLjoin if you aren't comfortable with DOS command line utilities.

If you're getting the error msg with attachments of any size, then the problem is more likely a corrupted msgbase. For that, the 1st thing to do is delete the unwanted msgs and then File, Compact folders.

The file is probably too large. I get that vague message when I try to send a lot of pictures at once.

the file may be too large
try using another email program such as yahoo (which allows 10 MB files to be attached)

or you might want to convert the file from .wmv to a smaller video format such as .flv

wma files are VERY large because they are neither for movies or music, when emailing an attached files you attachment could be only so big to send.

I suggest that you upload the file to:
yousendit.com or
megaupload.com or
rapidshare.com

It will in turn give you a link and you just paste the link to your email and the recipient can download it.
