That is a tough call there. Eric Clapton comes to mind first of all. He has been around for a long time and is still going strong. Another person you might not even consider is Roy Clark. I know. The fat guy on Hee-Haw. Seriously, he can play ANYTHING with strings, and play it to beat hell. The only reason he's not recognized as a popular guitar player, is because he plays country. Cool question.
