We are planning to drive from George to MA over the Holidays. We have stop overs planed in NC, VA etc.. to break up the trip. Any advice is more than welcomed. Mom is also breastfeeding. and I am concerned about keeping up the milk supply.

Keeping up the milk supply shouldn't be any different than any other time. Feed the baby at each stop. Or plan your stops around the baby's feeding time.

At 7 weeks you are probally doing an every 2 to 3 hour feeding? Feedings are no longer than 15 minutes surely? That time frame shouldn't slow the trip down any. So just feed when you stop for gas, a snack or a rest?

Good planning though.........nice to know a Mom that thinks of such a thing.

I used to sit in the back with the baby. When she needed to eat we stopped in a gas station. Filled up then and by the time I was done nursing and changing her he was done with filling up the car and getting whatever we needed from the station. We would stop and fill up even if we had 1/2 a tank. This way we didn't have to stop for gas while she was sleeping. If you have a minivan I suggest you keep one of those moses baskets in the back seat for changing the baby. If your baby does not sleep well in a sitting up position you can purchase a car seat that allows her to lay down and still be strapped in.

i traveled with a 7 week old from south carolina to virginia. my son slept almost the whole trip. he woke up for diaper changes and bottles. i couldnt breast feed. plan for lots of stops and have mom ride in the backseat. so she can nurse on the go just put shades on the windows and use blankets to hide moms chest. i fed while on the go keep baby low and you will be fine and slow down. pack lots of wipes and diapers and several outfits of clothes in the diaper bag toys are needed the baby is too young good luck and congrats

Try to keep your baby's normal feeding schedule. Plan on stopping every few hours to feed her/him. Sit next to him/her when he is awake and talk to and touch him/her.Your baby will probably sleep for most of the trip, mine always did. Good luck!! :)
