I am not sure what a punnet is, but I think I get the idea. The book I am reading is published from England and I am in the USA. I am guessing that "plant out" and "Punnet" it is just a different term than I am used to. But it is more problible that I am just a novice. Thanks

A punnet is a small container containing seedlings. In Australia most annuals are sold this way. To 'plant out' means to simply plant them in a larger pot or garden bed. If they are left in the punnet they will not grow to their full potential.

To plant out means to transplant seedlings into the garden from whatever they are started in.
Didn't know what a punnet was, checked the net and it appears to be some sort of container.

If you are on the USA west coast, the garden bible out here is the Western Garden Book, there are probably books very similar to that for other parts of the states. Worth looking into.
Best wishes!

G'day mate,
From my experience a punnet is simply a seedling tray. You know, what ever you planted the seeds into originally.
Planting out, or we always called it pricking out, is when you transplant the seedlings from the tray they where sown in into a small pot / tube.
Cheers.

No, they do have odd terms for things. I think it means to plant a whole area. Like fill in, or naturalizing, or just setting the plants in the ground. Whatever it means, you will do fine. The English just make it sound more complicated. My son-in-law is English and that's what I think it means.

It would depend of the entire context of that statement. I would say that it means to plant the seeds in the ground.
