i think it is a disgrace in indian society that a woman is considered not clean when she has her period and required to not make contact with anything holy or go to the temple....first of all god made us this way and god who is all around us it is impossible the disconnect oneself from! and women give birth to new life because of this cycle how can u say its dirty?

i think that god is within us....temples shrines idols, these are all material reminders of gods presence...why are women made to feel tainted an unpure or unclean for having something thats natural by men and women alike--doesnt this allow men to further dominate and women to be further subordinate?
does god view u physically or ur inner qualities...how can God condemn u for how he madde u

i am finding that some women re chavanists as well...if a culture has something wrong with it blatantly it is the right of the believers of god to ensure that this does not come in between them and the sanctity of the relationship

well....yes....this is something that i havent been liking about the female sex....just becasue u throw something out of the body women are not allowed in temples or in the pooja rooms of their respective homes. rather than saying not allowed, they are been taught that its bad to do any activity related to god during their periods, so many of them avoid doing any such activity.

if only the sole reason behind this exclusion is because of the periods then even men should not be allowed to do pooja whenever they pass loo because in a generic sense that is also throwing out something of the body......which is bad or which needs to be thrown out.....

PS: there is nothing we can do about it right now, but surely teach our gen next to not to follow such things...because its the purity of the heart and moral cleanliness that is more important than physical cleanliness(although it matters public)

Wow, what an interesting question. Very well thought out on your part...

While I do think that it is a disgrace, but, it is a whole different culture and I do not believe that I can judge them appropriately. I can see where it began, in a time and place where the understanding of the human body was limited.

However, in the Bible, it also states the same type of thing. I always figured that, back when these ideas were written, a woman's period was a bad thing, meaning she was not pregnant. Women needed to have many children due to the low survival rates.

So, my question is, how come religious traditions can not be and are not updated with the times?

This is something that I don't understand but According to the King James Version of the Holy Bible, Moses wrote the 1st five books of the Old Testament from Genesis through Deuteronomy more than 15 hundred years after God created Adam and Eve. He also set up the Laws of Moses which you have listed some of his laws in your question. It seems that he had taken it on himself to create some of those laws although he says that God told him what to write. I f you go to the new testament in the book of Galatians, chapter 3 verse 28, it say's There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. It seems that there is inconsistances but we have to go to the New Testament to see changes. In Jesus' writings I can't find any place that he puts down women as being inferior to men, yet in some of the old Countries, women had to walk 20 feet or so behind the men, I have heard that in Iraq before operation Desert Storm began, the women had to walk behind the men but after Desert Storm ended women had to walk 15 to 20 feet ahead of the men because there were so many unexploded bombs and mortars that if anyone steped on them, it would be the women who got killed or wounded instead of the men. I try my best to be a good Christian but there are an awful lot of things in the bible that I don't understand including the mistreatment of women. I have tried to answer your question the best I can but I dont have a clear answer to give you. God bless you and I hope you have the best Christmas ever and a great new year.

There are many cultures who believe women are unclean during their cycle, and it's not your culture so of course you don't understand it. Calling it a "disgrace" and saying that it is wrong is implying that your culture and beliefs are better than theirs. How would you feel if you knew that the "disgraced" women in India were criticizing your belief in God just because it is a different point of view?

It isn't just you who feels this way--most of Western societies share your outlook about this topic and so many others. Being Western does not mean you are more enlightened than anyone else. When the women in India want equality, they will let the Western world know. Until then, please do not criticize people for their unique cultures.

1. There is only 1 person who can make you feel tainted / Insulted in this whole world , who is you yourself ! Nobody can Insult you without your consent .

2. When GOD could not go everywhere to manage his created world , He created MOTHERS ! Any comments required on it ?

3. You can't change the world nor the society's mindset . What you can do is to change yourself . You can cultivate a strength to withstand society's thoughts which are annoying to you . That's the only & wise solution for your question !

For me, i do in comparison to being referred to as that, because of the fact i don't experience grown up or stylish sufficient to warrant being labelled with the term!

I agree with you, it's difficult. To make your period tainted makes you feel as if all (every part) of you were tainted. I don't know if that's how you feel, but I lived in a culture like yours, and to make even touching you a dirty thing is offensive. From my viewpoint, it severed my connection with my partner and that was most difficult for me.

errr..... does it really happen?? How do the temple people know about when the girls are having their periods ? If it does happen it really is a pity. I don't think anything related to women can be trademarked dirty , they are divinity personified and should be respected for whatever pangs they suffer to keep everyone around them happy.
