It depends what site you use to download songs but on average, a single song costs about 99 cents. That is what iTunes charges. If you download a whole album, however, sometimes you get a discount like instead of paying $11.88 for 12 individual songs, if you buy the whole album of 12 songs it might cost $9.99.

0.99$, but I've seen sites were you can download an album for 2 or 3$ (for example http://music.allofmp3.com )
Shop around...you will find good deals. For ipod, itunes is very convenient and the song are 0.99$.

I use limewire to download songs then import them into itunes. I also rip my cd' onto itunes.
