Mad Libs are funny and cute and cheap. Nice little packets of bath stuff. Special beads or jewelry that you make are nice. Little containers with a special treat are fun. Harmonicas are goofy, but can be fun.You didn't say if this was boys or girls. Something that you think is suitable for the specific individual.

But her a nice shirt and some jewelry from target. Or go to claires. You could get her a $20 gift card to her favorite store. People always like that. Hope I helped!!

It depends on what you want to spend stuff from old navy is always cute sweaters, and scarves, and even cute slippers, don't rule out dollar stores they have a lot of cute stuff too, make goodie bags with keychains, nail polish, lip gloss, and candy, check Michael's too, they have adorable animal calenders, and lots of cute stuff that is only $1, i would give everyone a stuffed animal with a bag of candy or a calender and candy

I can suggest some good books, but thats pretty much all I did when I was 12. It's the weird time between Young Adult (because that's geared towards teens) and Independant readers (big kids).
Girls:
Replica ser.
T'Witch ser.
Mediator ser.
Boys:
Don't know. I've never been one.

Hmm... Definently some type of toy, My cousin is a " Power Ranger Fanatic" It depends On who they are and what kind of personality they have, I'd say go out an have some "inspections" of what they like and dislike, im sure that should help a little.
Good Luck

If they are girls go to walmart and find lip glosses or hair clips, girls love that sort of thing at that age.
If they are boys, candy! Boys love candy at any age:) hot wheels are also cheap.
